Designation Catalogue Management
Purpose — Maintain the master list of designations used across the platform so that dropdowns, permission checks, and reporting all reference the same source.
Who Can Use It
All authenticated users on Employee routes can list and search; creation, update, and deletion follow the caller's role and scope.
Key Capabilities
- Maintain designations at three scopes: state (DHE-wide), school, and department. Attach sub-designations to any designation; the parent is automatically flagged as "admin" if any sub-designation is an admin.
- Departments can manage their own set of "specified designations" under a designation inherited from the state, without touching the parent record.
- Search for a designation by name.
- Soft-delete a designation, which also removes its sub-designations.
How It Works
-
Open the designation catalogue for the appropriate scope.
-
Add, edit, or remove designations. Sub-designations are edited inline.
-
Departments manage their specified designations independently through a dedicated action.
Rules & Restrictions
- Scope must be one of state, school, or department; other values are rejected.
- A department cannot modify an inherited (state-owned) parent designation; it may only manage its own specified sub-designations.
- Deleting a designation soft-deletes it and all its sub-designations together.
