Shift Management
Purpose - Configures work shifts (morning, evening, rotational, or night) for a school and assigns employees to them, so that timings, breaks, and pairing rules apply correctly.
Who Can Use It
School Admin, DHE, and Platform Admin.
Key Capabilities
- Create, list, view, update, and delete (soft delete) shifts.
- Each shift has a name, start and end times, optional break windows, applicable days of the week, and an active flag.
- Night-shift support: check-in and check-out are paired across midnight using a session identifier.
- Assign multiple employees to a shift; assignments are soft-deleted so the history of who was on which shift is preserved.
- A web-portal view that includes employee names.
- Option to include soft-deleted shifts in listings for review.
How to Use It
- School Admin opens the Shifts screen and creates a shift with name, timings, days, and (optionally) breaks and the night-shift flag.
- Employees are added to the shift.
- When those employees mark attendance, the shift determines late-check-in and early check-out calculations, and any configured breaks are deducted from working hours.
- Existing shifts can be updated or removed.
- A removed shift stays in the history.
Rules & Restrictions
- Break minutes are frozen at check-in so a later shift edit cannot rewrite past days' working hours.
- Only the overlapping portion of a break with the actual worked period is deducted, so an employee who leaves before a break does not lose those minutes.
- Only night shifts use the cross-midnight pairing model.
