Read Tracking and Unread Counts

Purpose - Keeps users informed about what is new and what has already been read, so they can focus on incoming activity that needs a response. 

Who Can Use It 

Any user who can receive messages or chat messages. 

Key Capabilities 

• The Inbox shows a count of unread messages so it is easy to spot new activity.
• Individual messages can be marked as read. 
• Chat messages track a read status and show unread message counts within a chat.
• Message recipients show a read time so senders can see who has read their message. 

How to Use It 

• Open your Inbox — the unread count is shown alongside the folder. 
• Open a message; it is marked as read. 
• For chat messages, opening the chat and using the read action updates the read status. 
• When you view a message you sent, you can see the read status for each recipient. 
  

Rules & Restrictions 

• Only the recipient of a message can mark it as read for themselves. 
• Broadcast messages sent before a user was registered do not count toward that user's unread total. 
• Read information is displayed only for users who are recipients of the message; senders see aggregated recipient read status.
