System Overview

The Auth Microservice is the identity, login, and access-control backbone of the SamarthX school administration platform for a state. It handles who can sign in to the system, how they sign in, what portal they see after login, and what they are allowed to do inside their portal.

The service supports four audiences within a state:

• The State Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) office that oversees schools.
• Schools registered under the DHE.
• Employees working at those schools (teachers, administrative staff, etc.).
• Students admitted at those schools.

Beyond authentication, the service performs onboarding of schools and users, manages permissions for school and DHE staff, provisions the organogram (department tree) of the DHE, and provides search and export capabilities for DHE staff.
